ISI Yogyakarta's DKV Study Program Expands MBKM Partnerships with Three Industry and Cultural Sectors

Yogyakarta, February – May 2025 — The Visual Communication Design (DKV) Study Program of the Indonesian Institute of the Arts (ISI) Yogyakarta once again strengthens the implementation Freedom to Learn, Independent Campus (MBKM) through project-based internship activities. In the odd semester of the 2024/2025 academic year, 24 students were deployed to undergo off-campus learning experiences by collaborating with three strategic partners from different sectors, namely the creative industry, the automotive and culinary industry, and cultural preservation institutions. The three partners involved include:

  • PT Pariwara Kamulyan Niaga (Kamulyan Creative House), a company engaged in the creative industry and advertising,
  • PT Kharisma Motor and Isvara Group, which integrates the automotive field with culinary business development,
  • Cultural Heritage Preservation Center (BPK) Region X Yogyakarta, a government institution focused on the preservation and development of culture.

The activity begins with internship handover to each partner at the beginning of February 2025. Subsequently, students undergo project-based activities tailored to the needs of partner institutions. Throughout the internship period, supervising lecturers from the DKV Study Program at ISI Yogyakarta conduct Monitoring and Evaluation (M&E) periodically. This monitoring is important to ensure the internship activities run according to their objectives, while also serving as a communication channel between students, lecturers, and partners. The final stage of the internship is marked by a closing evaluation activity at the end of May 2025.

Through this collaboration, students gain the opportunity to practice visual communication design knowledge in a real-world context, both to support industry needs and in cultural preservation efforts. Students are directly involved in real projects, starting from designing visual assets that will be compiled into promotional media on partner social media, posters, magazine, mascot, to promotional videos.

The Head of the DKV Program at ISI Yogyakarta, Fransisca Sherly Taju, S.Sn., M.Sn., stated that the MBKM internship program is a strategic step to enrich students“ learning experiences. ”We hope students will be able to develop professional competencies while expanding their work networks. On the other hand, their presence also provides positive contributions to partners, in the form of creative ideas, visual designs, or communication solutions relevant to the needs of industry and cultural institutions," she explained. Through the MBKM program, the DKV Program at ISI Yogyakarta reaffirms its commitment to producing graduates who are adaptive, innovative, and competitive in various fields, including the creative industry, business world, and cultural sector. The implementation of MBKM also represents a tangible contribution from the campus in meeting the demands of the times while strengthening collaboration between higher education, industry, and society.

For partners, the presence of interns not only adds new energy but also opens up continuous collaboration opportunities with the academic world. Meanwhile, for students, this activity is an important provision in preparing themselves to face the dynamic challenges of the working world.

With this year's successful partnerships, the DKV (Visual Communication Design) program at ISI Yogyakarta plans to continue expanding its network of partners and developing a project-based learning model that is relevant to the creative industry's developments and global challenges.
