Webinar "Looking at the Interior Concept of Archipelago Architecture Past and Present"

Tuesday, October 06, 2020, one of the young lecturers in the Interior Design Study Program of FSR ISI Yogyakarta held a webinar with the theme "Looking at the Interior Concept of Archipelago Architecture Past and Present". In this activity, the speakers were:

  1. Mahdi Nurcahyo, S.Sn., M.A.
(Lecturer of Interior Design Study Program FSR ISI Yogyakarta & Interior Practitioner Hopstoriese Studio)

2. Anugrah A. Pratama, S.Sn.
(UGM Postgraduate & Rawung Studio Practitioner)

This webinar is interesting because design education is often dominated by an European-centric approach, but the two speakers tried to challenge this by unfolding the knowledge of Nusantara interior architecture and re-contextualizing it in the world of design praxis today.

Mas Anugrah, through his practical experience in the world of design, outlines the concepts of traditional Javanese architectural interiors in a disciplined manner with rules that cannot be violated. No less interesting, Mas Mahdi, always an ISI Yogyakarta academic who is still actively working, also tries to test the concept of tradition to the context of today's projects, changing our perception of old-fashionedness to the present by not deconstructing the values of wisdom that have been agreed upon by our nation's ancestors.

Through this discussion, Interior Architecture of the Archipelago became a reflection on the return of "Archipelago Awareness & Intelligence". And this is a trigger for strengthening the character of the nation's education.
