Summer Course Program ISI Yogyakarta - Chatham University - Miami Dade College US

From May 6 to 9, 2012 ISI Yogyakarta, especially the Faculty of Fine Arts, Art Craft and Interior Design study programs, received a visit from a delegation from the United States, namely students and professors from Chatham University, Pittsburgh and Miami Dade College, Florida as many as 25 people to conduct a special summer program (Summer Course Program). The special program is also an implementation of the USIPP (US - Indonesia Partnership Program) program in which ISI Yogyakarta is the only Art Institute in Indonesia involved in it.

The US delegation was received directly by the Rector of ISI Yogyakarta, Prof. Dr. A.M. Hermien Kusmayati (Sunday, 6/5/2012) along with all ISI leaders at the Welcome Party and Reception at the Concert Hall, ISI Yogyakarta. On that occasion the Rector of ISI introduced all of his staff to the US delegation, and vice versa. Performing arts life was also shown such as Saman dance, Ethno Music and Lengger Dance presented by dance and ethnomusicology students, Faculty of Performing Arts ISI Yogyakarta.

During the visit, the group visited historical areas such as Prambanan temple, Borobudur, Kotagede, Kartika Affandi Museum and Art Gallery and Yogyakarta Palace as part of the Interior Design study program. There was also a lecture on architecture given by two professors from Chatham University and Miami Dade College, Dr. Gregory Galdford and Dr. Lyle Culver. While from Interior Design was represented by Dr. Sumartono. From the Art Craft study program, the students and professors attended classes on Ornamentation, Traditional Sumatran Architecture and Batik practice. In the ornament class, given by Dr. Yulriawan Dafri, they also made traditional Indonesian ornaments on paper to be framed, so that the ornamental work can be used as a souvenir. For batik practice, taught by Dra. Djandjang, M.Hum, students made batik scarves that they took home. There are two kinds of techniques used, namely stamp and canting techniques.

The delegation of students and professors from Chatham University and Miami Dade College expressed great satisfaction with the program they conducted at ISI Yogyakarta. Some of them expressed interest in doing a short course at ISI Yogya for about two months for next year with various interests, such as Batik, Taditional Dance and Theater.
