ISI Yogyakarta's First Participation in Thailand's "Malay Clothing 2025"

The Consulate of the Republic of Indonesia (KRI) Songkhla again held an annual routine agenda in collaboration with the Yala City Government, Yala Province, Thailand in organizing "Malay Clothing 2025" on May 24-25, 2025. "Pakaian Melayu 2025" is the 5th annual agenda and again invited Indonesia and Malaysia. The festival aims to introduce, promote local products and textiles, as well as establish cooperation between Thailand-Indonesia-Malaysia. This time, the festival is packed with a series of events: fashion design competition, fashion show, and exhibition of local products and textiles.

The organizer of "Malay Clothing 2025", KRI Songkhla, Thailand this time invited ISI Yogyakarta to participate. KRI Songkhla invited 3 universities as Indonesian delegates, namely Institut Seni Indonesia (ISI) Yogyakarta, Islamic Fashion Institute (IFI) Bandung, and Galuh University West Java. In connection with the invitation, ISI Yogyakarta was asked to send a team to participate in the fashion show and exhibition of Indonesia's superior local textile products. The D-4 Batik Craft Fashion Design Study Program (DMKB), Craft Department, Faculty of Fine Arts was appointed as a delegation team for ISI Yogyakarta which was fully supported by the Dean of the Faculty of Fine Arts and Design, Vice Rector for Field III, and the Rector of ISI Yogyakarta. The delegation consisted of two lecturers: Kaprodi D-4 Batik Craft Fashion Design, Budi Hartono, S.Sn., M.Sn. and Retno Purwandari, S.S., M.A.; and two D-4 DMKB students: Sacharissa Sukma Nisa and Ergi Irfansyah.

In the fashion show, ISI was asked to present 10 fashion works. For this reason, the study program team curated and selected 10 fashion works from 7 D-4 DMKB students & 1 S-1 Craft student. They are Ade Dwi Nurdiana (2200005028), Muhammad Hendri Sadana amir (2300271028), Mutia Mardotilla (2400305028), Khirza Widia (2200032028), Nur Inayah (2200020028), Syifa Mufida (2200015028), Novia Kurniati (2112264022), and Dina Karuniasari (2100226025). A special pride for ISI Yogyakarta, one of the fashion works of ISI Yogyakarta designers, Khirza Widia was chosen as the outfit worn by the MC from many works of designers from Indonesia, Malaysia and Thailand. Not only that, Sacharissa Sukma Nisa, ISI Yogyakarta's student delegation team, was chosen as one of the models in the fashion show joining the international models. Congratulations...the fashion show agenda was a success!

Not only is the fashion show proud, the exhibition activities also bear fruit with the signing of a handover agreement for the remaining work products in the exhibition to be included in several fashion events there in a row until the end of 2025 between the Head of the D-4 DMKB Study Program and the Consul of Social and Cultural Affairs, Consulate of the Republic of Indonesia Songkhla, Mochamad Rizki Safari. This signing is a positive response and support from KRI Songkhla to ISI Yogyakarta for the success during the exhibition and the enthusiasm of invited guests. In the exhibition, the ISI Yogyakarta delegation directly introduced batik to guests who mostly did not understand much about batik by introducing products made by lecturers, students, and study program partners in the form of batik long cloth, fashion works with batik techniques, jumputan, and various materials such as weaving. The appreciation of the visitors was very enthusiastic, even the Thai students who attended asked many questions about Indonesian culture, such as language, batik, and even learning to wear cloth. All parties contributed very well to "Malay Clothing 2025", such as ISI Yogyakarta's cooperation talks with Malaysian academics, Thai business people, and of course the organizers, the Indonesian Consulate of Songkhla and the Government of Yala, Thailand. A sign of the established relationship between ISI Yogyakarta and the Indonesian Consulate of Songkhla, Thailand was the delivery of a positive message from the Rector of ISI Yogyakarta in the form of an ISI Yogyakarta plaque that was handed over by the Head of D-4 DMKB ISI Yogyakarta to the Head of KRI Songkhla, Suwargana Pringganu. Hopefully the event and cooperation will continue. See you in "Malay Clothing 2026".
