Tonggak: Pendiri dan Pembangun ASRI
20 November – 30 November 2020
Galeri RJ Katamsi
ISI Yogyakarta
This exhibition showcases the works of the founders and builders of the Indonesian Academy of Fine Arts (ASRI). As the first art college established by the government of the Republic of Indonesia, ASRI was formed in an atmosphere of turbulent national spirit. At the beginning of its establishment, ASRI's education system was carried out in an atmosphere full of limitations, due to inadequate facilities and infrastructure, but the enthusiasm of the early students and teachers at that time formed the foundation of the art teaching pattern until now and continues to develop according to the changes and developments of the times.
The exhibition seeks to showcase the works and documentation of ASRI teachers, including: Abas Alibasyah, Abdul Kadir, Abdul Salam, Djajengasmoro, Edhi Sunarso, Fadjar Sidik, G. Sidharta Soegijo, Hendra Gunawan, Hendro Jasmoro, Kusnadi, Lian Sahar, RJ Katamsi, Rusli, Saptohoedojo, Soedarso, Suromo, Sutopo, Suwaji, Trubus Soedarsono, Wardoyo, and Widayat.
The exhibition also features works by students of ASRI's first decade. The expression of realism that tends to display social reality is seen in the works done through the global project system, a teaching system that prioritizes spontaneous depiction of direct objects.
