ISI Yogyakarta Art Management Students become "Curators" of the State Palace Flower Decoration at the 79th Anniversary of Indonesian Independence at IKN

Aziz Muzakkir (Class of 2022), one of the students of the Art Management Study Program of FSRD ISI Yogyakarta, has an interesting and important role. He had the opportunity to become the "curator" of flower arrangements and decorations in the implementation of the 79th Indonesian Independence Day ceremony at IKN, on August 17, 2024.

Together with PT Surya Decor Jakarta, Aziz and his team practiced decorating since 1 week before at the State Palace. Preparations have been made since the beginning of the last academic semester. Aziz and the team had studied the space, developed knowledge, designed the layout, placed orders, and adapted various things including transportation and making weather adjustments from Java to Kalimantan.

Surya Decor had a total of 95 people working with the assistance of experts and other vendors such as garden landscapers, construction and arrangers. The results can be seen, various flowers arranged around President Joko Widodo's seat, interior to the ceremony field.

Flowers have long been seen as a part of everyday life for people in Indonesia and other countries. Various traditional ceremonies or other activities always place flowers as an important part. Traditional ceremonies of birth, engagement, marriage, death, including the commemoration of independence day always use flower arrangements. The presence of flower arrangements in addition to complementing beauty also emphasizes feelings for many people. In other words, flower arrangement is an art of processing feelings where the results of the arrangement are made to convey the message of the maker and user. At the same time, flower arrangements are the identity of the nation.

Overall, Aziz's work as an assistant coordinator or "curator" of floral art decoration at IKN has become an interesting new study for further study. This program is the result of a collaborative partnership between PT Surya Docor and the S1 Art Management Study Program through the Ministry of Education and Culture's "Merdeka Belajar" Program. At the same time, this program is to add to the practice and study or study or art curation related to flower decoration so far very little has been done. Floral decorations that have been carried out at the Presidential Palace since the Republic of Indonesia was established have become an inseparable part of enlivening the atmosphere of state events.

Aziz and the team at PT Suryo Decor, who are the executors of the floral decorations at IKN, are certainly the lucky ones. Because in 2024, they became the first person or team in history to decorate the interior of the palace with various kinds of flowers. So, it's cool... hopefully there will be many insights that can be taken from this event. Aziz is preparing to become a professional curator specializing in flowers. The presentation at the 79th Indonesian Independence Day was part of the "cast" of fine arts as well. It is not wrong if this is an important part to be noted for the beloved campus of ISI Yogyakarta.
