Yogyakarta, October 18-20, 2024 - The Government of Yogyakarta Special Region (DIY) through the DIY Industry and Trade Office (Disperindag) successfully organized a prestigious annual event, Festival Batik 2024, which took place at the Atrium of Jogja City Mall (JCM), Yogyakarta.
With the theme "Batik Penetrates Global Borders," the 2024 Batik Festival, held from Friday to Sunday, offers a variety of interesting activities. In her report, Syam Arjayanti, Head of the Yogyakarta Industry and Trade Agency, said that the event includes a batik design competition, batik fashion design competition, fashion show, live music, dance parade, business matching, and batik exhibition as the main event.
The fashion show held on October 18-20 featured 17 batik designs by the nominees. The event was a collaboration between batik fashion designers, IKM Batik, and the Indonesian Fashion Chamber, with the support of Sekar Jagad and Batik vocational schools in Yogyakarta.
The Batik Design Competition was attended by 33 participants with 20 nominees, while the Batik Fashion Design Competition was attended by 17 participants. Each category gave awards to the first, second, and third winners as well as the first, second, and third runners-up.
Students of DMKB and Textile Craft Study Program as well as Craft Alumni, performed brilliantly in this event, sweeping all championships. Some of the students who were nominated in the fashion and Batik motif competitions included Lisa Nur Oktaviani, Meilyana Dwi, Mara'atul Wakhidati, Resza Dwinki, and Pertiwi.
In the Batik Fashion Competition, Resza Dwinki won 1st place from DMKB, followed by Mara'atul Wakhidati as 2nd place from DMKB, and Pertiwi as 3rd place from Textile Craft. Meanwhile, Lisa Nur Oktaviani, a DMKB student, won second place in the Batik Motif Design Competition. Kriya alumni won 1st place in the batik motif competition.
This success is expected to be a motivation for students of the DMKB and Kriya FSRD ISI Yogyakarta study programs to continue to participate in future national and international events.
