Collaboration between Craft Students of ISI Yogyakarta and FKY 2024: Building a Bridge of Creativity in the "Azimat Siasat" Exhibition

Bawuran, Pleret, October 16, 2024 - Craft students from Institut Seni Indonesia (ISI) Yogyakarta, under the guidance of lecturers Dyah Retno and Gandar Setiawan, held a collaboration class with the Yogyakarta Cultural Festival 2024 (#FKY2024) at the "Azimat Siasat" Exhibition. This collaboration provided an opportunity for students to hone their skills and understanding in art practice through direct engagement with the exhibition and in-depth discussions.

The event opened with a visit to the exhibition, where students had the opportunity to see various artworks, including works by ISI Yogyakarta craft alumni such as Meta Enjelita, Dedy Sofianto, Nabila Rahma and Kemala Hayati, who are members of the Matrahita collective. These works provide examples of how ISI Yogyakarta alumni have contributed to the development of contemporary art with a distinctive creative approach. This experience provides students with inspiration and insight into the role of art in cultural narratives.

After the exhibition visit, students participated in an interactive discussion on various aspects of the artworks on display, including their archives and underlying creative processes. The discussion allowed students to delve deeper into the importance of archives in art, and how artworks can be powerful communication tools in conveying cultural and social messages.

This collaboration class is also an important momentum to strengthen the relationship between ISI Yogyakarta and the Yogyakarta Cultural Festival, with the hope of establishing official cooperation in the future. One of the plans being considered is the integration of courses with real projects whose results can be displayed at the upcoming FKY. This will provide an opportunity for students to showcase their work to a wider audience, as well as open the door to cross-disciplinary creative collaboration.

This exhibition not only provides a practical learning space for students, but also a place to build professional networks with alumni who have successfully taken part in the art world. ISI Yogyakarta is committed to continuously enriching students' learning experiences through active involvement in the world of arts and culture, and preparing them to contribute significantly to the creative industry in the future.
