Five artists (Astuti Kusumo, Bambang Herras, Budi Ubrux Haryono, Bambang Paningron, and Suwarno Wisetrotomo) who are members of the InterCultura community are exhibiting at the Gallery of the Department of Arts & Crafts of Kobe Design University, Japan, from November 18 to 24, 2024. The exhibition is supported by The Conference on Ary and Art Projects (CAP) Kobe; Bison Comunity Arts, Kobe, and Kobe Design University.
In addition to the exhibition, a public lecture (Master Class) by Dr. Suwarno Wisetrotomo, and an art workshop coordinated by Bambang Heras and Bambang Paningron Astiaji, were held on November 21, 2024 at the Department if Arts and Craft Kobe Design University.
InterCultura for us (Astuti Kusumo, Bambang Herras, Bambang Paningron, Budi Ubrux Haryono, Suwarno Wisetrotomo) is a creative conversation space and an institution to expand our network. Networking is a necessity to disseminate ideas, and open up the possibility of collaborating with educational institutions and artists everywhere.
Our works are based on different focuses of attention: Astuti Kusumo records the dancer's face that shows the character being portrayed. Bambang Herras processes the expression of a mask that hides the real face, and gestures as an expression of survival. Bambang Paningron's works are "recordings" of the figures and faces of supernatural beings encountered on every trip. An interesting travelogue. Budi Ubrux's works are inspired by comics, bringing up the issue of ecology, the environment: figures who take care of trees. Suwarno Wisetrotomo's drawings are based on his efforts to build a literacy tradition; introducing important writers such as Goenawan Mohamad, Bre Redana, Gus Mus (K.H. Ahmad Mustofa Bisri) (Indonesia), Haruki Murakami, Eiji Yoshoikawa, Kawabata (Japan), as well as his concern for violence against humanity.
The works on display are an effort to say hello to friends everywhere; this time to friends in Kobe, Japan.
