ART CONNECTIVITY Curatorial Framework

ART CONNECTIVITY Curatorial Framework

YICAF or Yogyakarta International Creative Arts Festival is a routine agenda of the Faculty of Fine Arts and Design (FSRD) ISI Yogyakarta. This year is the third implementation (YICAF #3) with the theme Art Platform as International Art Connectivity, taking place from June 21 to August 31, 2025, on the campus of the Faculty of Fine Arts and Design ISI Yogyakarta. This theme is correlated with the efforts of FSRD ISI Yogyakarta to support and realize the goals of Institut Seni Indonesia (ISI) Yogyakarta to achieve a "world class university", or realizing ISI Yogyakarta as a World Class University. One of the keys to a world class university is the ability to build networks, maintain them, and continue to be connected to the world (institutions). This is the main argument for the selection of the YICAF #3 theme this time.
Organizing this exhibition was not easy, but it also had strategic value. It was not easy because: First, it uses indoors spaces that are not all designed and prepared for displaying works. In order to make the room suitable for use, it requires special handling. But this is precisely the challenge for the organizers to overcome the existing limitations. Secondly, this exhibition is international in scale, mainly inviting various higher education institutions of art in various countries, which have, will, or have not collaborated with ISI Yogyakarta. The most likely way for an exhibition of this scale is to optimize digital technology, with all its advantages and disadvantages. In other words, works from colleagues abroad in three-dimensional form, for example, are unlikely to be included, because they require more production costs and time.
It has strategic value, because it is a good opportunity for FSRD ISI Yogyakarta to strengthen its network; a good opportunity for departments or study programs to display their potential, identity, aesthetic, artistic and intellectual tastes.
The exhibition, which is supported by Project 11 Australia and AIAF, presents the entire potential of art in FSRD ISI Yogyakarta and other institutions (13 countries including Indonesia), including painting, sculpture, graphics, drawing, visual communication design, interior design, product design, photography, animation, crafts (metal, batik, wood, jewelry, keris, fashion), both from active students, lecturers, and alumni. The works, according to their type, will be displayed in each room of the department or study program in the FSRD ISI Yogyakarta campus complex. This exhibition can be used to see the development of art higher education institutions, as well as to see the development of art in general in the world.
