On this precious occasion, we would like to express our deepest gratitude to the Student Creativity Program (PKM) team that has been persistently working under the coordination of the Directorate of Learning and Student Affairs. The team's remarkable achievement is reflected in the preparation of the PKM 2023 Guidelines, an important document that will guide Indonesian students in exploring and enhancing their creativity.
The history of PKM not only reflects the long journey of Indonesian students in pursuing their creativity, but also reflects the commitment of the government and universities to continue to support and motivate students to be more creative and innovative. In its journey, PKM became a vehicle for channeling ideas and improving students' creative skills, reminiscent of the National Student Scientific Week (PIMNAS) which was first held at the University of Indonesia in 1988.
The Student Creativity Program, which was initiated in 1996 before the reform era, has now entered its 22nd year of implementation. Today, PKM is not only an integral part of students' academic journey, but also an important catalyst in improving soft skills and competencies in accordance with the spirit of the Merdeka Belajar Kampus Merdeka (MBKM) program.
Although the Covid-19 pandemic has impacted all aspects of life, including the world of education, the spirit, creativity, and innovation of students have never waned. PKM 2023 was still held with enthusiasm, following the provisions of the health protocol set by the government in the recovery era. This is clear evidence that Indonesian students remain committed to work and innovate, even in difficult situations. Effort and hard work are not only worthy of personal virtue, but also a positive foundation that will support the nation's progress in the future.
The role of the Directorate General of Higher Education, Research and Technology (Ditjen Diktiristek) through the Directorate of Learning and Student Affairs (Belmawa) in fostering student innovation and creativity cannot be ignored. The utilization of web-based information technology for the implementation of PKM and the addition of new categories are clear evidence of this effort.
PKM is not only an implementation of the Tridharma of Higher Education, but also a real effort to foster, accommodate, and realize students' creative and innovative ideas. This program has a positive impact on improving student achievement and higher education achievement in the ranking of the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research and Technology.
Since its launch, PKM has received a positive response, with more universities and students participating and an increasing number of proposals being uploaded. This reflects the importance of PKM in encouraging students to contribute to the scientific world and develop their creative ideas. In response to the development of students' creative and innovative ideas, PKM continues to be developed and refined. The introduction of new fields such as PKM-Gagasan Futuristik Konstruktif (PKM-GFK) which later became PKM Video Gagasan Konstruktif (PKM-VGK) and PKM Gagasan Tertulis (PKM-GT) which turned into PKM Gagasan Futuristik Tertulis (PKM-GFT) shows the readiness of PKM to adopt digital technology.
The PKM 2023 guideline, which is a refinement of the previous guideline, provides clear direction for the implementation of this program. This provides a strong foundation for the development of student creativity and innovation in the future. The Student Creativity Program significantly supports the achievement of Key Performance Indicators (KPI) by increasing the number of outstanding students at the national level. This achievement is the result of hard work by all parties, especially in the face of pandemic conditions that require adaptation, modification, and adjustment of activities. Serious attention to government regulations and strict implementation of health protocols are the main keys to the success of PKM 2023. We would like to express our gratitude and highest appreciation to all those who have actively participated in enriching the contents of the PKM Guidelines.
We hope that PKM funding in 2024 can continue to increase the number of student and university participation, as well as become a positive means of developing the competence of Indonesian students. Hopefully, the spirit of creativity and innovation that continues to burn through PKM will become a pillar of this nation's progress in the future.
