Even though many art writers have left a golden trail in art writing, our focus in art writing fell upon Mikke Susanto. This choice was more due to his “simplicity,” which turned out to be so substantive, essential, and even critically crucial.

His awareness built a fundamental understanding of the world of visual arts, showing his sensitivity and sharp intuition in responding to the “disheveled” state of Indonesian visual arts. This is traceable in his writings and his serious efforts in art criticism, curatorship, and art governance. Among these is the book “Diksi Rupa,” which he has been working on since 2003, serving as a primary response. This is a major contribution to the nation's visual arts.

The “Anugerah Prasetya Adikarya Budaya #3” award is fittingly given to Dr. Mikke Susanto, M.A. (and Dr. Djuli Djatiprambudi). Although what we offer is far from commensurate with his dedication over the years. In fact, it feels profoundly insufficient. However, hopefully, with this simple gesture, it will serve as an example (follow the footsteps) of all his ’simple“ writings that are highly substantial, even captivating with the fundamental meaning and knowledge of our arts.

Along with the award presentation ceremony, an art discussion will also be held with the 2 award recipients on SATURDAY, NOVEMBER 27, 2021, from 7:00 PM to 9:00 PM WIB at Joglo Sendang Kamulyan Art & Space – Jl. Mastrip Gg.1 No. 23, Jepun Tulungagung East Java.

Mikke Susanto is currently a staff member in the Art Management Department at FSR ISI Yogyakarta. He is also the founder of Dicti Art Laboratory Yogyakarta. Since 2000, he has undertaken curatorial work for over 140 fine art exhibitions. His other activities include exhibiting fine art, writing criticism and books, and working as a dynamizer for other creative endeavors.

His international activities include being a member of the National Gallery Singapore's Collection Acquisitions Council from 2017 to the present. This includes participating in international symposia at the Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam and giving public lectures on Raden Saleh at the National Gallery Singapore. He also participated in the International Seminar on Javanese Culture at the Kraton Yogyakarta in July 2021. In September 2021, he gave a lecture on the creative industry at the Asia Institute, Faculty of Arts, University of Melbourne, Australia. In October 2021, he was also invited as a speaker on art and religion by the Berlin Institute of Islamic Theology, Humboldt University Berlin, Germany.

Currently, I am compiling a century-long chronicle of fine art exhibitions in Indonesia from 1900-2000. In addition to my role as Head of the Department of Art Management at ISI Yogyakarta, I am also serving as the Deputy of the Organizational Division for the Indonesian Writers Association (Satupena).
