Applying for a scholarship for me is not just a matter of administration, but a momentum to emphasize direction, commitment and contribution in a field that is often questioned for its relevance - arts governance. As an Acehnese immigrant studying in Yogyakarta, the process of writing the Scholarship of Excellence essay became a reflective space that taught me that great work does not always take the form of greatness, but can be a determination and commitment that is consistently maintained. Through this experience, I would like to invite anyone who is still hesitant to believe in themselves, dare to try, and start preparing early-because small steps today can be the foundation of great contributions in the future.
As a student majoring in Arts Management at Institut Seni Indonesia Yogyakarta and a migrator from Aceh, the process of preparing myself to apply for the 2024 Excellence Scholarship was more than just an effort to fulfill administrative requirements. It became a space for deep reflection - to review the direction of the steps I was taking, emphasize my personal commitment, and reformulate the form of contribution I wanted to make in the realm of arts and culture. Through the essay, which is the main component in the selection process, I was given the space to honestly convey the vision and mission that I have always believed and strived for.
For me, applying for an Excellence Scholarship is not just a matter of administrative technicalities, but also an important momentum to reaffirm why I chose the field of Arts Governance, and how I want to continue to pursue it seriously, consistently and sustainably for the sake of real contribution to Indonesian society and culture. I realize that the path I am taking is often underestimated, both in terms of job opportunities and its relevance in nation building. However, that is precisely why I was encouraged to apply for the Excellence Scholarship. I want to show that arts education - especially in the field of governance - has a strategic role to play. Art is not just a form of expression, but also a means to maintain, manage and introduce culture as a national identity to the global level in a meaningful and profitable way.
