In August 2024, the Yogyakarta Land and Spatial Planning Office held a "Visual Signage Design Competition" in the Kotabaru Strategic Space Unit Area.
This information was captured swiftly by a Lecturer in the Interior Design Study Program at the Faculty of Fine Arts, Institut Seni Indonesia Yogyakarta, she is Riza Septriani Dewi, S.Ds., M.Ds. This young lecturer successfully guided the Interior Design student team to win 1st place. This 3-member student team, namely:
- Idan Kurnia Syah Alam
- Alfian Copriano Bakhtiar Ikhwan
- Muhammad Nur Shiddiq
This 2020 student did not expect to be the first winner.
In the first round of judging, they made it to the Top 10 Best Works and during the second round of judging they qualified for the Top 3 Best Works.
Students carried the theme "THE CHRONOSTASIS OF NIEUWE WIJK" Bridging The Past & The Future of Garden City Kotabaru.
Chronostasis is a psychological experience where time seems to slow down - "like a stopped clock" - when a person focuses on an interesting or emotional detail of the first visual stimulus they see. This phenomenon creates a profound illusion of temporal extension, enriching the individual's experience of a particular moment.
The Chronostasis of Nieuwe Wijk is an idea to bring back the identity of Garden City Kotabaru in its spirit and feeling without having to restore its physical form.
Design signage that will bring visitors back to the Garden City Kotabaru experience. This concept will strengthen and support Kotabaru's renewal, ensuring Kotabaru remains relevant as the city develops in the future.
There are 4 judges - Dr. Eng. Ir Laretna Trisnantari A, M.Arch (Chair of UGM-UNESCO Chair of Heritage City Preservation and Management)
- Ir. Suyata (Secretary of DIY Cultural Heritage Council)
- Terra Bajraghosa, S.Sn., M.Sn. (Art and Design Expert, Media and Culture Practitioner)
- Firman Afrianto, S.T., M.T. (PWK Expert, Data Mapping Practitioner)
This victory is proof of the enthusiasm and contribution of students of Institut Seni Indonesia Yogyakarta, especially the Interior Design Study Program. Hopefully this achievement will inspire other young people to continue to innovate, work and make the best contribution to society.
