ACADEMIC SEMINAR FACULTY OF FINE ARTS INSTITUTE OF INDONESIA YOGYAKARTA

In various fields, the media has a very important role. It is the media that then determines the success of a communication. Both from the simplest to the most complex scopes. One of the implications of the presence of the media is the pattern of interaction - including how to build these interactions. Of course, "how to build interactions" can be interpreted towards a construction that is not neutral and full of interests.

In relation to art, media can be placed as a power device that cannot be ignored, to borrow Marshall Mc Luhan's term: Media as an extension of the senses. And then it is humans who empower the media as a tool. Art and Media become a dialogical space in a broad, complex, intersecting yet distinctive and detailed framework. In a sense, each genre presented brings detailed characteristics and has its own audience. The interconnectedness of art and media, as well as the active nature of the audience, makes art spaces more empowering. However, what is then interesting to discuss is the power factor. Power in relation to virtual spaces that in fact become new patterns that "facilitate" but also become addictive. Furthermore, the presence of virtual space in art and media is suspected to be the forerunner of new power relations that are interesting to discuss.

Quoting what M. Foucault said: Power is inseparable from knowledge, power produces knowledge and knowledge is shaped by power. For Foucault, power is always actualized through knowledge, and
knowledge always has the effect of power. Power produces knowledge and not just because knowledge is useful for power. There is no knowledge without power and vice versa there is no power without knowledge.

Through virtual spaces, people begin to recognize strategies and tactics to carry out their interests, both as subjects and objects. Where there are no clear boundaries when appearing / displaying in the media, everything has a construction. Art and media are multidisciplinary fields that cannot be completed and completed by themselves. This field requires other scientific disciplines to be able to see its increasingly numerous and complex dimensions. Thus, involving other sciences is expected to enrich and deepen existing studies.
