Jakarta - The Directorate General of Higher Education, Research and Technology (Ditjen Diktiristek) in collaboration with the Indonesian Art College Cooperation Agency (BKS-PTSI) held a visual art exhibition entitled "Rakta Mahardika Rupa - Merdeka Cipta Daulat Bangsa" in Building D of the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research and Technology (Kemendikbudristek), Friday (11/10). The exhibition, which was held to coincide with Heroes' Day, was initiated to interpret the spirit of heroism through visual art.

In this exhibition, Building D of the Ministry of Education and Culture was transformed into an art gallery. Around 290 visual artworks are on display, including paintings, sculptures, fashion designs, installations, and multimedia artworks. The artworks will adorn the building for the next two months.

This exhibition is also a form of appreciation for the work of lecturers and students from nine renowned art universities in Indonesia. The nine art universities participating in this exhibition include Institut Seni Budaya Indonesia (ISBI) Aceh, Institut Seni Indonesia (ISI) Padang Panjang, ISI Yogyakarta, ISI Surakarta, ISI Denpasar, ISI Tanah Papua, ISBI Bandung, Institut Kesenian Jakarta, and Sekolah Tinggi Kesenian Wilwatikta (STKW) Surabaya.

Secretary of the Directorate General of Diktiristek Tjitjik Srie Tjahjandarie appreciated the initiation of BKS-PTSI to present outstanding works from lecturers and students of Indonesian art colleges. She emphasized that this activity is a performance demonstration from the artists of art colleges to all stakeholders from all regions of Indonesia when visiting Building D of the Ministry of Education and Culture.

"This exhibition also introduces the name of the art college, that they are not just a small college because they have countless works," said Tjitjik.

Tjitjik hopes that Rakta Mahardika Rupa will create a stronger collaboration between the Directorate General of Diktiristek and Indonesian art universities to advance Indonesian art and culture. "Hopefully this exhibition can inspire, stimulate thought, and remind us of the importance of independence, creation, and national sovereignty," he said.

The works on display in this art exhibition represent the artistic strength, creativity, and aesthetic depth of the participating lecturers and students. This exhibition is a form of achievement in the process of learning art in art colleges from all over Indonesia, which carries out the mandate to advance the nation's cultural arts and maintain and preserve diverse and dynamic artistic traditions.

ISI Denpasar Rector I Wayan Adnyana said that the Rakta Mahardika Rupa exhibition was a brilliant idea because art universities were given space to show themselves and actualize the results of their learning.

"This is the first extraordinarily focused attention we have received. Let's make Building D at least a perpetual gallery for us to display our best works," Kun Adnyana said.

ISBI Aceh Rector Wildan said that he welcomed the invitation to participate in this exhibition. As the youngest art college in Sumatra, ISBI Aceh exhibited 22 works by 20 artists, consisting of 6 lecturers and 14 students.

Meanwhile, ISI Yogyakarta Rector Irwandi also said that this exhibition was a very valuable opportunity for the academic community at ISI Yogyakarta because they could show their works to the public with their respective characteristics.

"With this exhibition, the existence of art colleges in Indonesia will be increasingly visible followed by strengthening the cooperation network between art colleges in Indonesia," said Irwandi.

Interpreting Heroism through Visual Arts

Rector of Jakarta Institute of Arts Indah Tjahjawulan said that this exhibition presents various interpretations of what makes someone a hero through paintings, sculptures, installations, photography, illustrations, animations and various other art media.

"The artists express their understanding of the value of heroism. They raise issues such as humanity, environmental protection, human rights, gender equality, cultural diversity, and others with diverse viewpoints," Indah said.

IKJ displayed 19 artworks from 18 artists. This work is expected to provide inspiration and understanding of the figure of a hero in the context of changing times to continue to fight and create positive changes in society.

ISBI Bandung Rector Retno Dwimarwati added that all the works displayed by ISBI Bandung indeed have different sources of creative ideas, but in essence have an intertwined spirit, namely lifting the potential of the country's wealth into art objects with a contemporary taste but still based on traditional cultural values.

"All the works presented in this exhibition at least provide an understanding that the essence of celebrating Heroes' Day is self-reflection, the extent of devotion to this country through works of art," he added.
