Yogyakarta, September 25, 2025 \u2013 The Interior Design Study Program, Faculty of Fine Arts and Design, ISI Yogyakarta, organized a Seminar and Workshop on Material Innovation with CARTA, a collaborative learning activity that introduces students to cutting-edge material technology, especially High Pressure Laminate<\/em> (HPL). This activity was held at Studio Ajiyasa Lt. 1 and was attended by students from various national universities.
The workshop was attended by Mr. Mahdi Nurcahyo, S.Sn., M.A., as the Coordinator of the Interior Design Study Program at ISI Yogyakarta, Mrs. Vindriasih Mirdias W, M.M., Mrs. Mutia Nurdina, S.T., M.Sc., and Mrs. Atina Rohmah, S.Ds., M.Sn., as the lecturers for the Interior course. The Interior Design Study Program at ISI Yogyakarta is committed to and fully supports the importance of applied experience, namely hands-on practice, in shaping the understanding of materiality for prospective professional interior designers.
In this activity, students have the opportunity to design and create a simulation for applying HPL CARTA to interior panels. They work from the concept stage, selecting patterns and textures, to the process of applying HPL to the panel surface. The entire process is supervised by Mr. Oky Rahmadhani and the CARTA technical team, who provide guidance on material characteristics, cutting techniques, adhesive application, pressing methods, and proper finishing.
This collaboration provides students with real-world experience to understand how materials work and the technical demands of the furniture industry. In addition to understanding the aesthetics of motifs ranging from wood, stone, metallic, to fabric textures, students also learn about material durability, installation accuracy, and the quality standards of products used in the professional interior industry.
According to Mr. Mahdi Nurcahyo, activities like this are an important part of the Interior Design Study Program's strategy to connect students with the creative industry's interior design sub-sector. \u201cHands-on practical experience with industry partners like CARTA allows students to not only understand design theory but also actively master the technical aspects needed in the working world,\u201d he said.
The Interior Design Study Program at ISI Yogyakarta expresses its appreciation to CARTA for their support, technical assistance, and willingness to share knowledge with students. It is hoped that this collaboration will continue and open new avenues for future collaboration, for the advancement of design education and the strengthening of the interior material industry in Indonesia.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
