Beyond Craft: Connections Through Creation
\"Tangible Memory\" Exhibition and \"Interwoven Narratives\" Sharing Session Presents New Perspectives in the Craft World
Yogyakarta, June 16, 2025 - International Craft Day (ICD) was held again this year with the theme \"Beyond Craft: Connections Through Creation\", an invitation to understand craft as a cultural practice that is alive, reflective, and connected to the people who create it. ICD #6 2025 emphasizes the role of craft not only as an aesthetic or functional object, but as a medium that records memories, values, and intergenerational social relations.
As part of the series of activities, ICD #6 presents the main exhibition titled \"Tangible Memory\", which features craft works from invited and open call crafters, artists, and communities. This exhibition opens a space for the public to see craft as a form of \"tangible memory\" - a cultural trace materialized in weaving, carving, clay, and various other mediums.
In addition to the exhibition, ICD #6 also organized a sharing session entitled \"Interwoven Narratives\", which brought together craft practitioners, researchers, designers, and local and international communities in a dialogical forum. The session served as a platform to explore the hidden narratives behind craft practices, including stories of technique inheritance, adaptation to changing times, and the role of craft in shaping community identity.
Through a contextual and collaborative approach, ICD #6 aims to build connections across time and space-between tradition and innovation, between individuals and collectives. In line with the spirit of cultural decolonization, the event also places the voices and experiences of local communities at the center of the narrative of craft creation today.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

International Craft Day is an annual program that aims to celebrate, explore and expand the understanding of craft as a dynamic cultural practice.
