Suphanburi College of Fine Arts Thailand is organizing a national and international art and cultural dissemination and exchange project and art workshop at Suphanburi College of Fine Arts for 2024. The aim is to facilitate collaborative exchange of art and cultural education between faculties, reputable artists, designers, and students from Thailand and abroad under the theme "Contemporary Art on the Thai Kings' Bond with the Land of Thailand." It allows academics and the general public to exchange techniques, methods, and formats with Thai and international artists.
The activity, which aims to establish cooperation between countries in the development of arts and culture, was held for five days from July 24 to 28, 2024. The activity was attended by ten countries consisting of Indonesia, Australia, Singapore, Malaysia, India, South Korea, Vietnam, Cambodia, the Philippines, and Thai artists as hosts. This activity also involved academics and students from several universities in Thailand including the Bunditpatanasilpa Institute, and Nakhon Si Thammarat Rajabhat University. The Faculty of Fine Arts ISI Yogyakarta assigned Lutse Lambert Daniel Morin S.Sn., M.Sn and Nor Jayadi, M.Sn. to represent Indonesia.
The event began with the opening and symposium on the history of the kingdom and the birthday of the King of Thailand. The event was chaired by Nattapat Suwannaprateep from the Kingdom of Thailand and all participants amounted to 100 artists from all invited countries and the host. Art workshops in this activity include sculpture, ceramics, painting, printmakingThe workshop also included workshops on rice farming, mixed media, laquer and decorative art. On the sidelines of the workshop activities were also visits to the rice farming center in Na Hia Chai to learn about Thai agricultural culture and visit sacred architectural in Suphan Buri Province and the 100-year-old Sam Chuk Market.
This event marks a significant advancement in international cooperation, especially with Institut Seni Indonesia Yogyakarta, Hanoi Architectural University Vietnam, and Nakhon Si Thammarat Rajabhat University. It is also expected to enhance academic experiences and perspectives between institutions and artists.
In this series of activities, Suphan Buri College of Fine Arts also facilitated communication in establishing cooperation between ISI Yogyakarta and Hanoi Architectural University from Vietnam. Discussion of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) became one of the main focuses of the meeting. This MoU is expected to strengthen academic relations and open opportunities for various joint projects in the future.
In addition to the discussion of the MoU, ISI Yogyakarta is expected to exhibit artworks featuring the work of lecturers and students and exhibited in Vietnam. The exhibition aims to introduce diversity and creativity in the field of art and architecture. As part of the collaboration, there are plans for lecturer exchanges between the two universities.
Nakhon Si Thammarat Rajabhat University Thailand, who also attended this event, showed great interest in extending the existing MoU in 2024 with ISI Yogyakarta. Silpakorn University hopes to also establish graduate student exchanges and art workshops between lecturers and students in Thailand. Their flagship program includes lecturer exchange, which is considered an important step to improve the quality of education and research in the arts.
With this partnership, it is hoped that the relationship between the universities can be strengthened, paving the way for wider collaboration in the future and making a significant contribution to the development of art and architecture education in the region.
Next year, Suphan Buri College of Fine Arts will again invite international participants including ISI Yogyakarta to participate in the same workshop, providing opportunities for faculty and students to engage in in-depth creative activities.
