The Interior Design Student Association (IMDI) of Institut Seni Indonesia Yogyakarta held an exhibition "SPATIO TEMPORAL #3: Indonesian Identity on Global Design" at Plaza Ambarrukmo Yogyakarta 2nd floor hall A & B for three days, on November 8-10, 2016.
The products on display include Furniture, Interior accessories and Home Decor. The word Spatio means space and Temporal means time, both words summarize the anxiety of the students to experience and process directly in creating a work, to then be appreciated directly by the wider community.
According to Satya Bramantya, one of the curators of the exhibition, the local wisdom inherited by the ancients was born from a process of adaptation that was grounded in a long period of time, or took place in an evolutionary manner that was full of culture, meaning and tradition. This is the main idea behind the Spatio Temporal #3 exhibition. "Through its journey, Spatio Temporal continues to strive to revive the creative movement in the field of design in Yogyakarta. Stepping into its third year, Spatio Temporal comes with the title 'Indonesian Identity on Global Design'," he added.
Each work on display was created based on a multifaceted thinking. The designer's main concern refers to the potential of tradition, but not only as 'form' which involves form, shape, variety, shape or material. It is also accompanied by 'content' in the form of philosophy, concept, values, ideas, notions and meaning or content. The participants' work also did not rule out function, ergonomics, environmental friendliness and market orientation.
This theme was translated by the prospective participants (students and the public) to submit works for the period of May 4, 2016 - August 14, 2016 and the second period August 24, 2016 - September 22, 2016 with a target of 80 works. Then curated by a team of curators from Indonesia Mind (IM) namely Satya Brahmantya, Ruby Sofyan (Lecturer Interior ISI Yogyakarta), Daru Kurniawan (Rakabu), R Tosn Tri Putro (Lecturer Product Design UKDW Yogyakarta), Ajie Bayu Bawono (Lumbung Rancang Aestetika), Tri Alfan Kurniawan (HOMESTD+), Baroto Budi Prakoso (SAGED Studio) and Nugroho Wicaksono (CV Kayumanis).
After the opening on Tuesday afternoon, (08/11/16) at the 2nd floor hall A & B, Plaza Ambarrukmo Yogyakarta, the event continued with Art Performance, Music, and Gala Dinner for exhibitors. There was also an Instagram Photo Contest during the exhibition. In addition, a work review was held on Thursday, November 10, 2016, at 3:30 pm for the first session and 6:30 pm for the second session.
The event featured a casual dialog so that visitors and exhibitors could share knowledge and experience. Spatio Temporal #3 aims to be a medium between design practitioners and the community in forming a strong character. Aside from being an art medium, it also plays a role in the social sphere with the hope of throwing discourse or scientific chatter and even movements to support the progress of the creative industry and national product design, and increase marketability.
This event is also a space for the presentation of design developments with a contemporary perspective, as well as a forum for the younger generation to create and explore in the world of design. During the event, it is expected that a network of local designers and producers will be formed nationally and internationally. This exhibition is also a form of support for Indonesia's creative industries, especially in the field of local content product design in global competition. (Bud)
